The F**k-It (Let’s do it) List!

I watched ‘The Bucket List’ at the weekend starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. I loved it! It is a very inspiring film about a corporate millionaire (Nicholson) and a working class mechanic (Freeman) who initially seem to be very different. Each man is at a crossroads in their lives. They meet when they share a hospital room. As they get to know each other, they realise they both have a deep desire to experience all that life has to offer before they ‘kick the bucket’. Together they write a joint ‘bucket list’ and embark on the adventure of their lives!

I watched it with my husband and we both felt really excited about life’s possibilities after watching it. A couple of things hit home to me:

• The reality is none of us really know how long we have

• Its never too late to fulfil our dreams

• Often our desires or dreams lie dormant in ‘every day life’. When life reminds us that we have a finite time on   this planet, it awakens us to it's possibilities

• Why wait till we receive a reminder from life?!

So we decided to create a F**k-It (Let’s do it) List! Based on the idea in the film, we both wrote down things we would like to do before our time is up. One thing we both noticed is that we have didn’t have that many things on either of our lists. We decided that isn’t a bad thing as we have both done a lot of the things we have really wanted to do – which is a good feeling! ;-) Mine to date have included moving to Australia for a year by myself, travelling in South East Asia and South America, moving to a new city in the UK by myself, trying lots of different vocations including care worker, tomato picker, office manager, fairground worker, setting up my own business, hang gliding, getting a tattoo.. and more! But there’s always more; so onwards and upwards to share my (current) bucket list with you:

1) I’ve decided I want to do a sky dive, so am saving up to do that next year
2) I’ve always wanted to go to Barcelona, so we have booked to do that in September

I would love it if you would join me and let me know what is on your F**k It (Let’s do It) list!

  • Awesome title!

F**k It (Let’s do It) list

Two things on my list are to: get a book published and play in a (fun) band.

  • Chris says:

I created a list of goals I want to do within 5 years back in 2007: http://www.myeggnoodles.com/21-things.html

Times running out though, but hopefully I should be able to do most of them!

Good luck with your sky-diving adventure... rather you than me lol

I've been meaning to put together a bucket list ever since I started reading Sean's over at seanogle.com. I think you've got a great start here, and I'll let you know when I get my own up and running :)

Looking forward to reading more posts!

  • Karen says:

Congrats on the kind of first post!!! I didn't realize that you got your blog up and running!!

Love the title... much more colorful that just a "Bucket List". Have you seen Sean Ogle's blog? It centers around accomplishing his extensive bucket list. ( http://www.seanogle.com )

I love this idea... very inspiring, though I have yet to write my own! I think you have given my that push to write it down now... Great picture, too. :)

My F**k It (Let's do It) List:

    1. - Go Skydiving (I'm planning on doing this on my 30th birthday, May of 2011)

    2. - Ride a Motorcycle Through the Southern Utah Desert (maybe next year)

    3. - Go Sea Kayaking in Northern Canada (who knows when)

    4. - Hike the Pacific Crest Trail (who knows when)

    5. - Climb a Mountain (one with ice and snow using ropes and ice axes and the such... and I haven't a clue when I'll get to do it, but I will).

I've been trying to work out how to reply individually, but alas a WordPress lesson to be learnt another day! ;-)

John - thank you - I was pleased with the title! and great list, I look forward to hearing more.

Chris - brilliant website name! and fantastic list, it is a great way of keeping track of where we are with our goals isn't it?

Colin - just checked out Sean's site, his list has given me some more ideas too! Look forward to hearing about yours.

Karen - Hey! Great to see you here :-) I'm really happy I've got it up and running - thank you for your feedback. Sean's site's very cool, just subscribed.

Josh - Awesome list! We'll have to compare skydives! your list made me think of another thing I've always wanted to do...visit the Grand Canyon.

  • Hey Jen!!!! :)

I see you have a new blog! Awesome!
It looks cool, I love the simple design. It's going to grow into a great blog over time, I'm sure of it :)

I'm still writing a post for 100 things I want to do before I die, a genuine bucket list, but its actually pretty hard to come up with a list like that :)

Most of my list involves travelling, seeing countries, cities and monuments and having adventures, skydiving, snorkeling, windsurfing, racing cars.

Of course, make a million dollars is on the list too.

I agree, it was an awesome movie:)

Best of luck with your new blog and keep in touch:)
    Diggy!

  • jen says:

    Hey Diggy!!! :-)
Great to see you here and to have your feedback and thank you for your kind words :-)
    Your list sounds really exciting!
The more people share what they want to do, the more things I think of more things that I'd like to do! ...I'll have to do a 'Part 2'!
    Jen

  • "One thing we both noticed is that we have didn’t have that many things on either of our lists."

I'm sure that as long as you accomplish some of the items in the list, you'll naturally add new ones, so don't worry about it ;)

  • Ana says:

    Hello Jen,
I admire your style, and your way of thinking.
This is really ultimatetly why we are here-to go with our dreams, and put our creativity in motion through our experiences.
It's always so awakening when we connect with our existence, and I am glad that you have touched this moment. :)
You hit the nail on the head, with how "Often our desires or dreams lie dormant in ‘every day life’". This is a reminder that we are here to do less, and bring out more of who we are.
My dreams are always in motion, within every moment. Being here is living my dream's purpose, and the next step is to prepare for the ultimate but that is in no definite rush. Every moment is treasurable. :)
    Nice to stop by.
Good Luck to you, and your blog. :)

  • jen says:

    Hey Ana! :-)
Thanks for stopping by and for your comments and feedback.
I agree, this is ultimately why we're here and I like what you say that we are here to do less and bring out more of who we are. A good reminder.
    All the best
    Jen

Do you know what Jen, I'm going to sit down tonight with my lovely wife and write a F*&k It list. (I know I'm a bit late to this post party but hey - better late than never)

Have you heard the John Mayer Soundtrack song "Say" one of my favourite songs.

How's the list coming now? 4/5 months on?

That sounds great Ben. :) no problem, The F*&k It list parties always on! I haven't heard that song, I will listen out for it.
Barcelona was one of the things on the list, which we have done (and was awesome :) ) and sky diving, which to be honest I hadn't thought about for a long time! mmm, maybe need to start a new list!
