I spent a couple of days with my parents this week. It was a really great few days. I love hanging out with my parents, they really are a lot of fun.
Before I left, they took me out for lunch at an Italian restaurant. We had a really nice meal, and during the meal I shared with my parents more about what I am doing with this blog. I am fortunate that my parents are as interested in personal development as I am. Some of the first books I read about personal development belonged to my Dad (by the likes of Norman Vincent Peale and M. Scott Peck.) My mum and I are also always sharing books and have participated in various personal and spiritual development courses together. I grew up sharing ideas and different ways of looking at the world with my parents and still do. We have a great personal development library that we share.
So I was sharing what I was doing and pondering what I will do next. My mum said to me: “You should write a book”. I explained about e-books and that I have been thinking about writing and releasing a free e-book on my site and that maybe I would do that. We talked about a few ideas for the content of the e-book, and mum got what I was saying and we had a good discussion. Then mum said “ok, but you should write a book too”. We both really like those little inspirational books (“little book of calm” kind of books) and she suggested I write something like that, with my own theme.
So I started explaining that I had only just started blogging, I haven’t really written for a long time, there is a lot better writers than me around etc. I explained, that the way to go would be an e-book. I explained that I couldn’t just write a book; people might not want to read it, who would publish me? and on and on I went!
Then I stopped. I caught myself. Ok, sure it’s good to be realistic, but why not?
The point of my sharing this, isn’t really about whether I write that book or not (although it is very possible I will at some point) but just how important it is to have people in our life that believe in us, and see our potential, even when we don’t. My mum and dad both really got what I am doing and where I want to go. They believe in their daughter and know what I am capable of.
It is important to have people in our life, that see our potential, especially when we don’t. It may be our parents, a friend, a colleague, a coach or even a stranger. Reaching our goals and dreams may not be easy, it may take a lot of work and at times take a lot more than we think we can give or are capable of. It is important to have positive influences to help us on our way. To see what we are capable of, even when we don't.
Equally vital, is understanding how great it is when others are like that for us and to be that for others too.
My parents understanding and encouragement really makes a big difference. It also reminded me of the importance of my job as a coach and how vital it is to see others as a possibility and not their stories. The importance of cherishing and honour our dreams.
Thank you Mum and Dad.
Who are your positive influences?

Heya Jen!
Totally do it. Write a book. Make your free ebook a small and condensed version, but still full of value. THat way you can test the response and do a more comprehensive one later, and then release it as a premium book.
Have a great weekend!!

Your are truly blessed with you Mom and Dad. It 's nice to have smeone believe in us even if we're doubtful about our self. But you know what? You can do whatever it is that you dream of. You can write a book (a great one perhaps) by just believing in your self and take little steps. No one was born a great writer, they have developed it slowly.
Every step of our life we must learn something, and with that learning we will be able to expand our horizons.
Thanks Jonny!
Hey Walter.
and you are right, we can do whatever we dream about if we set our minds to it.
I am, they are fantastic.
It's fabulous, Jen, that you have such wonderful parents, and can share the positive energy they give you with your readers, friends and clients.
And I hope you'll honour and cherish YOUR dream and write your book - I will be in the queue to read it!
My major influencers are my partner Steve, and my brother Bobby. They both support and love me just as I am. Sometimes their faith in me goes beyond my faith in myself and so they can be wonderful to lean on and take courage from. I feel very blessed to have them in my life.
Thank again Jen.

It is great that you have Steve and Bobby. I really liked what you said: "Sometimes their faith in me goes beyond my faith in myself". That is really great. To have this kind of support and love is the best!
Thanks Sheila!

Great to meet you too and thank you, I do appreciate your feedback.

Thanks again

I love this post
When I was trying to write a book I had all sorts of different reactions. In the end, though I think most of the people who weren't into it were just jealous. It's so good to have friends who are behind what you do!
Andrew
Thanks Andrew!

Really good to have supportive people behind us, especially with a big project like writing a book, to remind us we can do it! I think you're right, people's negative reactions is their issue really, I think sometimes succeeding or doing something a bit different can unsettle people, who are not in the same place.
Great to see you here Andrew.
